1. In the construction of a field or other facility, areas where additional soil is added to achieve the desired contours, in contrast to "cuts," which are areas where soil is removed.

The diagram shows the area between the existing elevation line and the cut line. The land that must be added to the site to achieve the desired land topography is the "fill."
