1. The manner in which a thrown, struck or kicked ball contacts and rebounds from a playing surface. Ideal ball response is consistent in both direction and speed.

This is a picture of a shortstop fielding a grounder and without proper ball response one wouldn't know how the ball would come off the bounce.
