Michaux was a French botanist. He traveled in France, England, Persia and in North America (1785), where he made extensive studies of the flora of the Atlantic Coast. He established large nurseries in South Carolina and New Jersey. His work includes: History of the Oaks of North America (1801), Flora Boreali and America (1803).
